blissful summertime memories.

my summer has been full.
hence, no blogging.
no writing.
no record of the blissfulness.
i am bad.

i shall start at the beginning.

worldview academy-
best week at worldview i have ever had.
i learned so much.
took it to heart.
i learned to defend my faith.
i learned to be a servant leader.
i learned that it is okay to fail sometimes.
i learned that i don't have to be perfect.
i don't have to be good enough.
in fact, i never should be good enough.
if i was good enough, i wouldn't need anyone.
i wouldn't need grace.
i wouldn't need Jesus.
so sometimes i mess up.
sometime i fail.
but i have a Savior who never fails and never messes up.
and He is in love with me.
and i am in love with Him.
and i need Him all day, every day. immensely.
i am His.
i am loved.
i am forgiven.
and through Him, i am enough.
there was singing.
best friends.
dancing.
partying.
late night talks.
tears.
joy.
best friends.
good times, good times.

small town festivities-
upon arriving home from worldview, i felt just a wee bit overwhelmed by real life.
but nonetheless, i jumped headfirst into an eventful family life, with all its twists and turns and craziness. we went to the carnival at night. it was beautiful. saw five minutes of the end of a fireworks show.  i love fireworks. the next day, we went to a parade. we sat in the sunshine, watching the floats pass by, complete with the local royalty, the old men on tractors, the just-out-of-step-enough-to-be-noticeable-and-annoying marching bands, the dancing 7 year olds in way too short shorts and tacky tees, and the clowns chucking candy at the loudest screaming kids. i screamed. therefore i received candy. my siblings are far too polite, so they didn't get as much. but, no worries, i shared. andrew and i walked to the carnival and he bought me lemonade from the stand that looks like a big lemon. that's one of those things that just plain makes me so stinking happy. we swing danced on the sidewalk and watched the sunset. i felt like a small town girl all weekend and loved every minute of it.

early morning sunrise-
seriously.  i am so nostalgic and romantic in the summer it just makes me gag.  but on June 21st every year i feel the need to wake up and see the sunrise. because its the earliest sunrise of the year. so i have to see it... for nostalgia's sake.  so we watched the sun come up over a lake and a dirt road. it was beautiful. andrew and cole came and made it wonderful. i was happy.

karate-
so, my mother signed me up for karate on a whim. this is probably the most adventurous thing i've ever done. which is sad. but funny. and i suck at karate, but i don't care. it' s just wonderful. i have a badge and a white belt so far. a white belt is exactly..well...really far from a black belt. but i shall persevere!!! I feel talented. i won't mention the fact that my two-year-old brother got his white belt in one less class than me. what can i say? i've never been good at stuff like that... you know.. like, soccer, piano, gymnastics, jazz dance, ballet, hip hop, swimming, gym class, choir, speech, and.. karate.  *cries in corner whilst having a fit over how terrible i am at stuff....* okay, done now. i really am quite content with making a fool of myself. besides that, the instructor said andrew and i have natural talent in this karate thing... granted, he was looking at andrew when he said it.  but i think he meant both of us.

valley fair-
oh happiness. i love valleyfair. it is the one day every year that i throw aside all my fear of heights and go enjoy the view from someplace very, very high.  the rides are crazy, but just spending that time with friends is the best.  lemonade. feeling like throwing up. swimming. getting matching butterfly tattoos. blasting music. old cars. bumper cars. handing out gospel tracts. sharing a chocolate shake at a nearly authentic 80's restaurant. riding on the kiddie rides with the little ones. screaming way too loud. running from ride to ride for the last 10 minutes of the night. watching the sunset. losing my voice. sparkling green tea with a shot of raspberry. getting kicked out of the line for the ferris wheel because apparently aforesaid beverage is not allowed. watching the fireworks. holding his hand. really bad sunburn. smiling. happiness.

fishing date-
thus begins the story of the first attempt at a very sweet failure of a date, but a priceless memory. so we go on down to the good ol' fishin' hole, poles in tow, sun almost setting, perfectly still water, and smiles on  our faces. just as we were walking in to the water, andrew hooked his pants with his lure. no big deal.  just cut the line and put a new one one, right?  yeah.  until i walk by him just a little too close and it hooks my shorts as well.  i'm literally hooked on him...  cute, right? yeah. but lo and behold, the lure is very, very barbed, and very, very impossible to remove.  so we attempted to fish while hooked together, but that didn't work very well. the walk home is about a quarter mile. but while stuck to someone at the hip, it felt like quite a bit longer. under such dire circumstances, we were both sufficiently frustrated. but, in typical andrew/hailey fashion, we walked around the block another time, just so we could enjoy such a hilarious memory we were making. we eventually got into a rhythm and it wasn't so hard. i think i'm going to start suggesting that whenever anyone argues, they hook themselves together and are forced to walk and work out their problems that way. it is quite therapeutic. anyways, we arrived at home at last and were searching for a bolt cutter. i got the brilliant idea to call my dad and ask where it was and my mom answered the phone. you can imaging the conversation.
"oh hey mom..."
"hey"
"um, can you ask dad where his bolt cutter is?"
"hailey, why do you need his bolt cutter?"
"oh..no reason"
"right. hailey what happened?"
"yeah..um.. its funny really..."
"hailey."
"okay, okay... i'm hooked to andrew with a lure. it got stuck on him and then i walked by him and it hooked me...and yeah.. now we're stuck."
"likely story."
"it's true, i swear!"
it was great. really. eventually we got unstuck, with only minimal damage to our clothing. it was quite the ordeal.. but oh so hilarious.

fishing date, the sequel-
second time around, it went better. the sun was rising, the water was calm. and i caught a big fish. we went out for coffee and laughed and laughed and read our bibles and had a perfect fishing date. it was quite nice.

my birthday-
oh heyyy. best. day. ever.  got woken up early in the morning by andrew and taken off to the coffee shop. read our bibles and went fishing. came back home, my boy made me a nummy breakfast, and i spent time with the family.  did pilates. went out on a beautiful picnic on a hill by the lake with andrew. complete with passion fruit tea, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, apples, and a yummy dessert.  i was given a beautiful necklace and a note from my boy :)  came back home again and had a beautiful dinner with my family. spent some time outside and then watched a movie with the family.  it was a perfect day.

the fourth-
swam at the lake. made and ate a delish lunch. watched the kids make angel food cake and berries with cool whip.  watched the fireworks over the lake...the reflections of the lights dancing magically across the water. most beautiful thing ever. such a wonderful day.

anyways... those are just a few of the things that stick out the most about my summer thus far :)

i am content.
