blissful summertime memories.
my summer has been full.
hence, no blogging.
no writing.
no record of the blissfulness.
i am bad.
i shall start at the beginning.
worldview academy-
best week at worldview i have ever had.
i learned so much.
took it to heart.
i learned to defend my faith.
i learned to be a servant leader.
i learned that it is okay to fail sometimes.
i learned that i don't have to be perfect.
i don't have to be good enough.
in fact, i never should be good enough.
if i was good enough, i wouldn't need anyone.
i wouldn't need grace.
i wouldn't need Jesus.
so sometimes i mess up.
sometime i fail.
but i have a Savior who never fails and never messes up.
and He is in love with me.
and i am in love with Him.
and i need Him all day, every day. immensely.
i am His.
i am loved.
i am forgiven.
and through Him, i am enough.
there was singing.
best friends.
dancing.
partying.
late night talks.
tears.
joy.
best friends.
good times, good times.
small town festivities-
upon arriving home from worldview, i felt just a wee bit overwhelmed by real life.
but nonetheless, i jumped headfirst into an eventful family life, with all its twists and turns and craziness. we went to the carnival at night. it was beautiful. saw five minutes of the end of a fireworks show. i love fireworks. the next day, we went to a parade. we sat in the sunshine, watching the floats pass by, complete with the local royalty, the old men on tractors, the just-out-of-step-enough-to-be-noticeable-and-annoying marching bands, the dancing 7 year olds in way too short shorts and tacky tees, and the clowns chucking candy at the loudest screaming kids. i screamed. therefore i received candy. my siblings are far too polite, so they didn't get as much. but, no worries, i shared. andrew and i walked to the carnival and he bought me lemonade from the stand that looks like a big lemon. that's one of those things that just plain makes me so stinking happy. we swing danced on the sidewalk and watched the sunset. i felt like a small town girl all weekend and loved every minute of it.
early morning sunrise-
seriously. i am so nostalgic and romantic in the summer it just makes me gag. but on June 21st every year i feel the need to wake up and see the sunrise. because its the earliest sunrise of the year. so i have to see it... for nostalgia's sake. so we watched the sun come up over a lake and a dirt road. it was beautiful. andrew and cole came and made it wonderful. i was happy.
karate-
so, my mother signed me up for karate on a whim. this is probably the most adventurous thing i've ever done. which is sad. but funny. and i suck at karate, but i don't care. it' s just wonderful. i have a badge and a white belt so far. a white belt is exactly..well...really far from a black belt. but i shall persevere!!! I feel talented. i won't mention the fact that my two-year-old brother got his white belt in one less class than me. what can i say? i've never been good at stuff like that... you know.. like, soccer, piano, gymnastics, jazz dance, ballet, hip hop, swimming, gym class, choir, speech, and.. karate. *cries in corner whilst having a fit over how terrible i am at stuff....* okay, done now. i really am quite content with making a fool of myself. besides that, the instructor said andrew and i have natural talent in this karate thing... granted, he was looking at andrew when he said it. but i think he meant both of us.
valley fair-
oh happiness. i love valleyfair. it is the one day every year that i throw aside all my fear of heights and go enjoy the view from someplace very, very high. the rides are crazy, but just spending that time with friends is the best. lemonade. feeling like throwing up. swimming. getting matching butterfly tattoos. blasting music. old cars. bumper cars. handing out gospel tracts. sharing a chocolate shake at a nearly authentic 80's restaurant. riding on the kiddie rides with the little ones. screaming way too loud. running from ride to ride for the last 10 minutes of the night. watching the sunset. losing my voice. sparkling green tea with a shot of raspberry. getting kicked out of the line for the ferris wheel because apparently aforesaid beverage is not allowed. watching the fireworks. holding his hand. really bad sunburn. smiling. happiness.
fishing date-
thus begins the story of the first attempt at a very sweet failure of a date, but a priceless memory. so we go on down to the good ol' fishin' hole, poles in tow, sun almost setting, perfectly still water, and smiles on our faces. just as we were walking in to the water, andrew hooked his pants with his lure. no big deal. just cut the line and put a new one one, right? yeah. until i walk by him just a little too close and it hooks my shorts as well. i'm literally hooked on him... cute, right? yeah. but lo and behold, the lure is very, very barbed, and very, very impossible to remove. so we attempted to fish while hooked together, but that didn't work very well. the walk home is about a quarter mile. but while stuck to someone at the hip, it felt like quite a bit longer. under such dire circumstances, we were both sufficiently frustrated. but, in typical andrew/hailey fashion, we walked around the block another time, just so we could enjoy such a hilarious memory we were making. we eventually got into a rhythm and it wasn't so hard. i think i'm going to start suggesting that whenever anyone argues, they hook themselves together and are forced to walk and work out their problems that way. it is quite therapeutic. anyways, we arrived at home at last and were searching for a bolt cutter. i got the brilliant idea to call my dad and ask where it was and my mom answered the phone. you can imaging the conversation.
"oh hey mom..."
"hey"
"um, can you ask dad where his bolt cutter is?"
"hailey, why do you need his bolt cutter?"
"oh..no reason"
"right. hailey what happened?"
"yeah..um.. its funny really..."
"hailey."
"okay, okay... i'm hooked to andrew with a lure. it got stuck on him and then i walked by him and it hooked me...and yeah.. now we're stuck."
"likely story."
"it's true, i swear!"
it was great. really. eventually we got unstuck, with only minimal damage to our clothing. it was quite the ordeal.. but oh so hilarious.
fishing date, the sequel-
second time around, it went better. the sun was rising, the water was calm. and i caught a big fish. we went out for coffee and laughed and laughed and read our bibles and had a perfect fishing date. it was quite nice.
my birthday-
oh heyyy. best. day. ever. got woken up early in the morning by andrew and taken off to the coffee shop. read our bibles and went fishing. came back home, my boy made me a nummy breakfast, and i spent time with the family. did pilates. went out on a beautiful picnic on a hill by the lake with andrew. complete with passion fruit tea, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, apples, and a yummy dessert. i was given a beautiful necklace and a note from my boy :) came back home again and had a beautiful dinner with my family. spent some time outside and then watched a movie with the family. it was a perfect day.
the fourth-
swam at the lake. made and ate a delish lunch. watched the kids make angel food cake and berries with cool whip. watched the fireworks over the lake...the reflections of the lights dancing magically across the water. most beautiful thing ever. such a wonderful day.
anyways... those are just a few of the things that stick out the most about my summer thus far :)
i am content.

date, diet, and 13.1 miles.
Date. Yesterday I went to a wedding. My cousin was getting married. In theory, it doesn't seem entirely unusual. Except for the fact that I've never actually spoken to this woman. Still haven't. Also, my dad's side of the family is just a tad bit estranged. And strange. But we went to the wedding out of obligation and I was determined to have a delightful time despite the slightly awkward circumstances. I brought my boyfriend as my date, which was a really exciting because that was the first time I got to ask him out and take him with me somewhere. :) But anyways, it was 90 degrees and humid yesterday, and that did not make for a happy me. My makeup melted, my forehead sweated, and my four inch heels weren't making my blistering feet any happier. Also, everyone in the church was pretending to be a devout catholic when, in fact, we know that they aren't in the least. Then the priest talked so slowly that no one could understand him and from what I heard, all he said was, "The fruits of the spirit are love, peace, joy, self-control, endurance, love..." Great reminder. But I'm pretty sure that's all he said for an hour and a half straight. You can only be reminded so many times. Shortly after the service we meandered on over to a park where the reception was. There was a breeze off of the lake, so it was really quite beautiful. Country music was blaring and we danced the afternoon away on the patio. It was adorable to see my beautiful younger cousins and my siblings dancing and playing with the breeze running through their hair. The night ended up well. Andrew was an absolutely fantastic date, despite the oddities and lack of social graces from my extended family. I know for a fact that I couldn't have kept a straight face if he had an intoxicated uncle that was trying to blow something up behind his truck during the wedding...
Diet. Don't even ask me how I got into this little extravaganza, but my mom and I are currently on a dairy, sugar, and gluten free diet. This is day 15, and despite a little weekend splurging, I have stuck almost completely to it. I feel so good. Food has become a huge part of my life because of this, and it feels a lot better to know what foods I should be eating and which ones I need to avoid. And just as an added bonus, the food is amazing.
13.1 miles. 10 weeks. Yes, shoot me now. I've decided I'm going to train for a half marathon over the summer. Let me just state, for the record, that I am not. not. not. a runner. I run 2 or 3 miles for some cardio a few times a week. But I have never, ever tried to actually run far. Long distance just isn't my thing. I am determined, however, to do this, and I shall run 13.1 miles by middle of August.
Well, the deed has been done. I guess since I've now typed it out, I have to do it...
Anyways....Happy Memorial Day!! I'm off to go for a bike ride and soak up the sun. :)

Lame.
Immodesty
Tests in biology
Milk curds
F words
Telling someone they’re a nerd
Cocaine’s insane
Getting high wrecks your brain
It’s a dumb thing to do
Along with
getting drunk
Being dumped
Trying hard to fall in love
Skinny jeans
Heresy
Too much popularity
Cheating
tweeting
overeating
Blame games
zits
It’s all lame
Work
stress
PMS
Bending over in a dress
Dirty dancing
Always glancing
At the boys, wait
Smelly shoes
Bad news
Summer school
Not cool
But it’s a good thing to do
I can’t stand
Artichokes
Egg yokes
Vegemite on burnt toast
Cellulite
Bug bites
Guys who want to pick a fight
Speeding
Bleeding
Trick or treating
BO
zits
It’s all lame
Road rage
Bad grades
Shaving with a dull blade
Stubbing toes
Yellow snow
Static on the radio
Rug burns
Wrong turns
Studying for midterms
But it’s a good thing to do
I can’t stand
Itchy eyes
White lies
Being forced to say goodbye
Horse flies
Fake cries
Stale fries
Supersized
Dating,
waiting,
overstating
I hate zits
It’s all lame
I’m not holier than you
I just can’t stand these things we do
And to me it’s all the same
It’s just lame
....my thoughts exactly.

Almost done.
I am officially nearing the end of the school year. But, not really. I'm really stressed about my finishing skills, and I'm just hoping to God that I will get it done before summer. Also, I miss my friends. But other than that, my life has been full and happy and full of happiness. :) I saw "The Vow" the other day, and decided that I will hopelessly and pathetically cry in every single movie that I watch. I am terrible. But it was really sad and very cute. Overall, it was a pretty good movie. Tonight I'm babysitting. Which seems to be the only time that I've ever written anything. But I'm glad to get outside and just sit here and write some emails, blog, and listen to music while the little ones play. Lately, other than school, I've been spending time with my wonderful, crazy family and my amazing boyfriend. They make me so happy. The other night we went fishing at night and then watched lightning over a field. So random, but great memories. :) This week I started my spring jump start work out plan, which I'm really excited about. Getting fit for summer. Well, my weekend consists of studying, family time, church, and maybe seeing some friends. Lately, I've been reading Ephesians and just holding on to all the sweet, sweet promises of God.
"Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen." Ephesians 3:20-21
I'm learning cherish the moments that I have to pray and study God's word, alone and with the people around me. Holding on to those promises, and learning to praise God even when I'm a nervous wreck. I'm praying that next week I am able to get a lot done, and summer will just be that much closer! Can't wait. Almost done.
Be reminded today of how much He is in love with you.

sunshine and spring.
i love this weather. its 58 degrees, breezy, and beautiful. the sun is shining. and my heart is full. there is just something about the way that the wind runs its fingers through my hair that just puts a permanent smile on my face and erases any worries or anxiety from my head. the last few days have been wonderful. yesterday i was coerced into letting my boys take pictures of me. my brother, cole, is a talented photographer. cole, andrew, and i had so much fun walking around in fields, chasing a goose, getting caught on nails and burrs and all other sorts of scary things that you just don't see in a breathtaking photo. but it was so much fun to spend time with my brother. he is such a blessing to me. my younger brother is learning to read. i love the huge smile he has when he discovers the spelling of a word. i am babysitting tonight. and i'm coming down with a nasty cold. can't. stinking. breathe. this has its advantages though. i changed two diapers today, and didn't smell a thing. fantastic. last night i went shopping and got a new shirt and a loofah. and some sort of shine treatment for my hair that no one in my family shares my excitement for. there's a bird's nest in the bush outside my window. apparently the bird isn't afraid of humans. its cute. well, i'm going to go drink some tea and take more vitamin c.

hey there.
i hate writing the first post of any blog that i start.
this is my fifth blog, unashamedly.
i only like two of the five blogs that i've started.
so suddenly i felt inspired to start a new one.
so here we go.
i'm hailey jo.
i am madly in love with Jesus.
i love my family, love my friends.
love my life.
i love adoption.
i want to be a missionary, social worker, or teacher. or all three.
i want to travel the world.
i want to be a mommy.
i want to love passionately, patiently, and unconditionally.
i believe that life is about more that just existing.
i believe that life is about more that just existing.
change something.
do something.
believe something.
fight for something.
run towards something.
and love.
*end rant*
your guess is as good as mine as far as what i'm going to write about.
but anyways, hey there.
welcome to my blog.
